Olympic torch coming to Thatcham
Thatcham Town Council is delighted to hear the news that the town has been chosen as part of the route for carrying the Olympic torch in July. Town Mayor, Cllr. Lee Dillon said “This event will offer residents and visitors the opportunity to share in the Olympic spirit. Thatcham is already an important town historically and we hope that future generations will look back on 11th July 2012 as another historic day to remember.”
The Town Council has already set up a task group to consider celebrating the events in 2012 and now that it has been confirmed that Thatcham will be part of the route for carrying the Olympic torch, it will look at ways to make this a particularly memorable event for members of the community. The Town Council would welcome volunteers from other local organisations to be involved on this group.
