As the damp, dark skies set the back-drop for this solemn occasion there was a sense of dignity and pride as large crowds lined the route of the Thatcham Remembrance Day Parade as it left the Kingsland Centre and snaked its way through the Broadway and High Street to the War Memorial.

The Union Flag was carried and escorted by cadets from St. John Ambulance. The Parade was led by the Town Mayor, Cllr. Lee Dillon , and included Cllr Peter Argyle, Vice Chairman of West Berkshire Council, representatives from the Royal British Legion, soldiers from Denison Barracks, Berkshire Army Cadet Force, Wessex Ranger Brigade, St. John Ambulance, Thatcham Boys’ Brigade, Thatcham Guides and Brownies, Cold Ash and Thatcham Scout Groups. Cold Ash Brass provided the music during the procession and at the service at the War Memorial. A Guard of Honour was provided by 42 Engineer Regiment at the War Memorial. The Parade Marshal, Mr. Andrew Washbrook, with his Assistant Mr. Jeff Tolley, ensured that everything ran smoothly. The Parade filled the Memorial Hall Car Park and one of the largest crowds to gather at the War Memorial took part in what was an emotional and poignant service.

The service was led by Revd Pete Jarvis at the War Memorial and in St. Mary’s Church where the Roll of Honour was read.
