Thatcham Vision Youth Club
In the summer of 2008, a 10-year old boy wrote a letter to Thatcham Vision, detailing how his older siblings had a youth club to go to and how he had searched for something for his age group of a similar nature, but found there was no youth club for him to socialise and meet new friends that catered for his age.
In the autumn of the same year, Thatcham Vision investigated the situation in Thatcham for his age group, and not only found that he was right, but also found that there was tremendous support from local schools and children in the area. So began work on feasibility studies, funding applications, discussions with partner organisations and interviews with potential youth workers.
Here we are nearly two years later with an exciting launch and a brand new facility and service for the junior school age young people of Thatcham.
To make it a success, we will need your child/children and the parent’s/guardian’s support and agreement of the rules of the club (which are printed overleaf to keep). You must sign the membership application form and a copy of the rules to join the club. You will also be responsible for delivering and collecting your child/children to and from Thatcham Vision Youth Club meetings, which will be fortnightly between 6-8pm.
Once the Club is up and running, there will be a dedicated page on the Thatcham Vision website www.thatchamonline.net, where you will be able to check whether the club is running and read news and information about the club and its activities. There will also be occasions where photographs of your child may be used for promotional purposes (on the website or in a local newspaper for example), which you authorise by signing the membership application form.
It is important to note that there are a very limited number of places at the Youth Club, due to the size of building (based upon Health & Safety regulations). It will be the final decision of the Youth Club Workers whether a child may attend – there will be 45 permitted members of Thatcham Vision Youth Club (who can sign up as members), but only 30 will be allowed to attend at any one time (allocated on a first come, first served basis). If Thatcham Vision Youth Club outgrows the Pavilion, Thatcham Vision will endeavour to locate a suitable alternative venue and resources (in consultation with existing members and their parents/guardians).
Most of all, we would like to welcome you all and hope your child/children enjoy their time at Thatcham Vision Youth Club. If you have any comments, questions or need further information, please contact the Thatcham Vision Project Manager by our email here or call Thatcham Town Council and ask to speak to Thatcham Vision on 01635 863592.
